Eight Years in the Colosseum

Born and raised in Sparta, Michigan — the source of his nickname — Stamann wrestled and boxed for most of his life. His mother thought competition would keep him out of trouble. He fell in love with the sport, went 19-1 as an amateur with seven championships including a 2008 Golden Gloves state title, and turned pro in 2011, working a family restoration business in the off-time.

Stamann burst into the UFC on eight days' notice in 2017 and won a split decision over Tom Duquesnoy, a heavily hyped European prospect. He went on to push Aljamain Sterling to a decision, held his own against Song Yadong in a draw, and defeated Alejandro Perez and Eddie Wineland inside the Top 15.

'I was in the top 10 in the UFC less than a year of being in the UFC.' From regional circuit to the most competitive division in the sport — overnight.

Stamann was submitted by Da'Mon Blackshear at UFC Fight Night in November 2024 — his third straight loss — and the UFC opted not to renew his contract in early 2025. He has spoken candidly about his tenure, identifying himself as 'a 35-year-old millionaire' grateful for eight UFC years and actively exploring PFL, GFL, or BKFC opportunities.

He is also developing a personal cigar brand called Spartan Cigar — a fitting venture for a man who carries the warrior ethos into everything he does.

Stamann is a high-IQ pressure fighter who uses his wrestling instincts to stay busy, control tempo, and land the spinning back kick at unexpected moments. His striking is technical rather than flashy, and he prides himself on finding ways to win regardless of the circumstances.

Outside the cage, Stamann is an outdoorsman who loves hunting and fishing in Michigan. He attended Grand Valley State University and previously ran a family restoration business. He cites his parents as his heroes and is building the Spartan Cigar brand as his next chapter.
