Scuba Diving · CMAS - Confederation Mondiale des Activites Subaquatiques (World Underwater Federation)
| Phase | Starts | Ends | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Recreational scuba diving - no competitive season | — | — | Recreational scuba diving has no single governing body and no competitive season. It is a certification-and-tourism activity regulated by competing training agencies working to common minimum standards, not a federated sport with a calendar. What is federated and does have a calendar is competitive underwater sport - finswimming, freediving, underwater hockey, underwater rugby, sport diving and related disciplines - run by CMAS. |
| Pool and indoor discipline season | — | — | Year-round, split by discipline. Pool disciplines such as indoor finswimming and indoor freediving run December through June, while open-water and depth disciplines run in the Northern summer and autumn, following warm water. |
| CMAS World Championship Freediving Indoor | Jun 9, 2026 | Jun 15, 2026 | Novi Sad, Serbia. Juniors and seniors. |
| CMAS World Championship Underwater Hockey Age Group | Jul 16, 2026 | Jul 26, 2026 | Gebze and Kocaeli, Turkiye. |
| CMAS World Championship Freediving Depth | — | — | Roatan, Honduras. Dates left null because two CMAS-published windows conflict - see the dispute entry. |
| CMAS World Championship Para Freediving and Para Finswimming | Nov 25, 2026 | Nov 30, 2026 | Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy. |
| CMAS World Championship Finswimming Indoor | Jun 22, 2026 | Jun 29, 2026 | Incheon, Republic of Korea |

One date is published two different ways
Both published versions are shown with the page each came from. The paper does not pick between them — the governing body settles it.

Not Yet Confirmed
6 parts of the Scuba Diving year are still unsourced
These are gaps, not blanks. Each names what is missing and who would confirm it. Nothing is estimated to fill the shape of the table above.

- An authoritative statement of CMAS's competitive season structure as a whole (CMAS publishes discipline calendars rather than a season definition) — CMAS would confirm. CMAS finswimming calendar · CMAS freediving calendar

Around The Season
- High school
- Not an NFHS sport; neither scuba nor any underwater sport appears among NFHS-sanctioned activities. High-school-age participation happens through dive shops, clubs and junior certification courses rather than a school season. NFHS Activities & Sports
- College
- Not an NCAA sport and not on the NCAA emerging-sports list. University-level competition exists internationally through FISU; the 2026 FISU World University Championship in finswimming is at Sharm El-Sheikh, 26-30 October 2026. NCAA Future Dates Summary
- Olympic and major games
- Not on the LA28 Olympic or Paralympic programme. CMAS is an IOC-recognised federation, recognised in 1986, and a member of the International World Games Association, so underwater sports appear at the World Games rather than the Olympics. Finswimming is contested at the Mediterranean Games, Taranto 2026 on 25-29 August, and at FISU World University Championships. LA28 Games Plan
- Club, youth and academy
- CMAS runs explicit age-group, junior, youth and masters championships alongside the senior calendar, including the youth finswimming World Cup in Izmir in early July 2026, the European Junior Championship in Chios in June 2026, the Asian Junior Championship in Nantong in September 2026, SEA Wave Juniors rounds in Phuket in April and November 2026, the Masters World Championship in Sharm El-Sheikh in April 2026 and an age-group underwater hockey World Championship in Turkiye in July 2026. National open events fill the gaps. On the recreational side there is no tryout or camp cycle: entry is via paid certification courses at affiliated centres, with entry-level courses capping at 18 m. Trade shows anchor the industry calendar, such as Diving Talks in Lisbon in late October 2026.

Results data · Published but human-readable only. CMAS publishes complete per-discipline calendars, event pages with dates and venues, and podium and results posts on its own site, but as content-management pages and social posts rather than a structured feed, with an older parallel archive still online and occasional internal date conflicts. The most usable consolidated view of the whole sport is a specialist third-party site, not the federation. Recreational scuba has no results data at all - nothing to publish, since it is not competitive.
